Anything that could link a conversation back to you personally. That means names, email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, and more. These get swapped with anonymous placeholders so the AI still has the context it needs to answer your question—it just has no idea who’s asking.
Yes. masked.chat automatically catches common identifiers, but you have full manual control too. Want to hide a project name or a nickname? Highlight the text and click ‘Mask’, or use the /mask command to open your identity vault. You decide exactly what the AI sees and what stays private.

The masking happens right in your browser—by the time your message reaches the AI, names, emails, addresses, and other identifying details have already been replaced with anonymous placeholders. Your questions get answered, but the AI has no idea who’s asking.
No. You can start chatting right away without an account. In this mode, your identity vault lives in your browser’s local storage—private and persistent as long as you don’t clear your browser data. If you want to use masked.chat across multiple devices, you can optionally create an account. That lets us store an encrypted backup of your vault so your settings follow you. Either way, you hold the only key.
